Song ~ This Morning I Saw An American Flag...

This morning I saw an American flag,
Lit by the suns first light,
I watched it waving in the gentle breeze,
And I smiled at its colors bright.

I thought of our soldiers,
In the deserts of Iraq,
As they fight for our freedom,
And never look back...

As I watched our flag,
With its red and white stripes
and it's beautiful stars,
In the mornings first light,

I wondered if a soldier,
In some far away place,
Saw the same flag this morning,
With a smile on his face. :)

Verse 2
This morning I saw an American flag,
Stirred by a gentle breeze,
And my heart started singing "Amazing Grace!"
In a prayer, as I fell on my knees.

I thought of our soldiers,
In the midst of every fight,
Every gunshot, every bombshell,
They must hear through every night...

As I think of that hymn,
That we sing without fear,
How can we sing "Amazing Grace",
Yet never shed a thankful tear?

And I wondered if a soldier,
In some far away place,
In his own heart this morning,
Sang, "Amazing Grace!"

Verse 3
This morning I saw an American flag,
Held in a child's small hand,
And I thought of the ones,
Whose own daughters and sons,
Gave their lives for the love of this land.

This freedom is precious,
For 'twas purchased at a price,
Though we often forget that,
It was first bought by Christ.

On that old rugged cross,
On a hill far away,
The Son of God died for man,
To wash our dark sins away.

So, the next time you see an American flag,
And you pray for our soldiers who fight in Baghdad,
Remember that freedom still comes from above,
For the God in Whom we trust,
Is still a God of love.
